Job Title: Church Engagement Manager

Responsible to: Director of Communications, Engagement and Fundraising

Salary: £36-40k

Location: USPG, 5 Trinity Street, London, SE1 1DB - Flexible working, a minimum of 2 days in the London office (Mondays and Wednesdays) and 3 days from home 

Hours of work: Full time – 35 hours per week. Requirement to work evenings and weekends as necessary, with time off in lieu. Significant amount of travel in Britain.

About the Role

To build and develop a community of church supporters and volunteers primarily based across Britain and Ireland. Maintaining communication with and strengthening engagement opportunities across the Anglican churches using all appropriate channels. This role will equip our church supporters / groups and volunteers to understand our work, their roles and have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

About You

You will be experienced in leading, managing, supporting and motivating colleagues, church supporters and volunteers from across Britain and Ireland.  You will maintain the vision and energy for the team and will able to translate that vision into practical work plans. You will have a sound knowledge of the Anglican Church and church networks, of fundraising practice and of volunteer management. You will have excellent presentation skills with an ability to relate to diverse audiences as it relates to the global church.

The post holder will develop and implement a church engagement strategy for USPG which will encompass USPG volunteers, who are an essential part of the organisation's plan to grow over the next 5 years as they carry out supporter actions (give, act and pray) at every level of work within Britain and Ireland. You will form the connection between our UK church partners and the mission agency, advocating and fundraising on behalf of our global churches. The Church Engagement Manager will develop an approach to long-term engagement with churches whilst working with other team leads to acquire new church supporters to engage with USPG.

The post holder will also be responsible for training and supporting our volunteers as they speak to groups and churches about the impact of the organisation, representing USPG at parish and diocesan level, attending events and fundraising for USPG. The post holder will promote best practice in volunteering and ensure compliance with relevant legislation. They will recruit and train volunteers, provide resources and act as a first point of contact.

The post is based in the Communications, Fundraising and Engagement team which encompasses fundraising and communications functions. The post holder will work collaboratively across this team and the wider organisation to deliver organisational and team objectives.

Responsible to: Senior Fundraising Manager

Salary: £38,000 - £40,000

Location: USPG, 5 Trinity Street, London, SE1 1DB - Flexible working available - a minimum of two days working in the London office, currently Mondays and Wednesdays.

Hours of work: Full time - 35 hours per week (Occasional work outside of office hours, with time off in lieu).

The package also includes

About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Fundraising Manager, the Major Donor Manager sits within the Communications, Engagement and Fundraising team. We are looking for an experienced, fundraising professional to join our team, to help us identify, approach and cultivate relationships with key individuals who have the potential to make major contributions to our work.

The role involves developing plans that feed into the USPG fundraising strategy to increase engagement from high net worth individuals and cultivating new high value donors. Managing the major donor income and expenditure budgets, ensuring all activity meets income targets and expenditure remains on budget. Developing and managing a pipeline of donors to approach and build relationships, securing high value (5 and 6 figure) gifts. Hosting meetings, presentations and special events to network with high value donors and cultivate new relationships.

This is a really exciting opportunity to develop and deliver a new major donor programme as well as working with our Global Mission team on developing the case for support and impact reporting.

About You 

You are a confident, passionate fundraiser and relationship manager with the proven ability to motivate and inspire others to give. You have experience of implementing fundraising plans, developing a pipeline of high value donors and securing high value (5 and 6 figure) gifts. You are pro-active and self-sufficient, equally comfortable working alone or as part of a team to achieve shared goals. You are target driven with a hands-on approach, adapting as necessary to carry out a range of tasks from writing proposals, managing events and researching prospective donors. 

You are highly personable, with the ability to engage supporters and stakeholders with diplomacy and persuasiveness. An excellent communicator with strong writing skills and the ability to adapt to different audiences, you will be comfortable working closely with senior leadership, trustees and influencers to unlock peer connections and leverage new support. You are enthusiastic about collaborating with others across the organisation and enjoy working in an innovative creative environment.

Job Title: Special Projects Manager (Codrington Reparations)

Responsible to: General Secretary / CEO

Salary: £38,000 - £41,000 depending on experience 

Location: USPG, 5 Trinity Street, London, SE1 1DB

Hours of work: Full time – 35 hours per week. 36 months contract Occasional weekend and evening work with time off in lieu. Occasional international travel (the Caribbean).

We are recruiting an experienced project manager to help coordinate the planning, delivery, and management of Renewal and Reconciliation: The Codrington Reparations Project in collaboration with a parallel post in Barbados. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with demonstrable experience in project management, who is comfortable working with a wide range stakeholders and partners at all levels and is committed to USPG’s aims and values. The work requires a sensitivity to the contested nature of history and active support for reparations for the transatlantic slave trade. Knowledge of the Caribbean region, history and cultures and an understanding of university research environments would be advantages. 

The Project
Renewal and Reconciliation is a project that involves a partnership between the Codrington Trust and the United Society Partners in the Gospel (USPG). This is a reparative project in relation to the ownership and management of the 700-acre Codrington Estate. Between 1712 and 1838 the estate was run by USPG’s predecessor organisation, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPG). Under SPG’s management, enslaved persons of African descent were subjected to brutal and degrading treatment as well as the deprivation of their liberty. USPG has pledged 18M Barbadian dollars (£7M sterling) to be used over a period of 10 – 15 years in Codrington, Barbados to support a programme of activities composed of four workstreams: community development and engagement; historical research & education; burial places & memorialisation and family research.

The Role
USPG is looking for a confident, well organised and experienced professional who enjoys working in an innovative creative environment to help deliver this long-term project alongside partners and colleagues in Barbados. As part of a Caribbean - British team, the postholder will be responsible for the design and delivery of this programme of activities. They will be expected to work in close collaboration with colleagues in Barbados (mostly online) as well as across the teams within USPG. They will report directly to the General Secretary (CEO), the Revd Dr Duncan Dormor, but will also work also very closely with the Executive Secretary of the Codrington Trust, Mr Kevin Farmer, and his colleagues.
