Updates from Kenya: Emerging Leaders Academy 2025
What does it take to shape the next generation of leaders in the Church?
The Emerging Leaders Academy provides an answer. This inspiring year-long journey brings together young Anglicans from around the world. Over three weeks in Limuru, Kenya, the cohort will grow as leaders, deepen their faith, and experience cross-cultural ministry — learning from each other, local communities, and inspiring mentors. Classroom with a view: enjoying the grounds at ACK St Julian’s
USPG is grateful to ACK St Julian’s for hosting the residential portion of the ELA, and to the Anglican Communion Youth Network for their continued commitment to nurturing youth leadership.
Week 1: Getting Started
The participants arrived at ACK St Julian’s, excited and ready to begin their journey together. After a round of introductions, the learning began, with our cohort developing key skills such as active listening with Ella Sibley and Dr Paulo Ueti from USPG, supported by fun ice-breaker games and Bible studies.
Highlights of the week included sessions with Dr Julius Kithinji, Dean of St Paul’s Theological College, Limuru, who shared important wisdom:
Leadership is about people – about always considering what is best for them.
It was also a joy to meet The Most Revd Dr Jackson Ole Sapit, Archbishop of The Anglican Church of Kenya, who came by to welcome the young leaders. Speaking about the call to lead with faith and humility, he reminded participants that true leadership is rooted in trust in God’s presence:
Go in peace, knowing the One whom even the winds and the waves obey goes with you. May His calm guide your steps and His Spirit empower your stewardship.
His visit set a powerful tone for the journey ahead, reminding the cohort that leadership is not just about skills and service, but also about walking in step with Christ.

Amidst the learning, the cohort are also enjoying the peaceful retreat setting of Limuru, surrounded by beautiful nature – an ideal spot for reflection and learning. Closing the week was guest speaker Nicholas Pande from Communion Forest who shared a powerful message on the importance of creation care.
