Life-Saving Aid for Gaza and the West Bank
Amid ongoing conflict, displacement, and economic hardship, USPG, alongside our Anglican partners, is humbled to support vital medical aid in Gaza and the West Bank through the response of Diocese of Jerusalem. Through our participation in a coalition of Anglican agencies, funding is provided for staff and medical supplies at Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza and St Luke’s Hospital in the West Bank.
Wrist surgery at Al-Ahli Hospital
In July, support from Anglicans enabled 48 inpatients, aged 8 to 70, to receive surgical care at Al Ahli Hospital, while 172 outpatients were treated, including X-ray and CT scans. At St Luke’s Hospital, 43 inpatients and 170 outpatients received care, with common procedures including caesarean sections, appendix and hernia operations, and arthroscopy. Many patients benefited from subsidies due to the ongoing economic challenges in the West Bank.

USPG recognises the tireless dedication of hospital staff in Gaza and the West Bank, the excellent coordination by the Diocese of Jerusalem, and the generous support of partners. It is inspiring to see a strong Christian presence in the region, continuing to serve communities with dedication despite the immense challenges. Truly the Church is offering a beacon of hope in such a difficult environment. Together, through this partnership, we are helping to provide life-saving care and uphold the dignity of those most in need.
A note from Dr Suhaila at Al Ahli Arab Hospital following an attack on the hospital in August:
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. It is a comfort to know that the Anglican Alliance partners are standing with us and holding Al Ahli Hospital and our team in their hearts. Your support is deeply appreciated and much needed in these very difficult days.
She continues: “The recent attacks have been deeply distressing, yet we are heartened by the many messages of solidarity and visits from local and international supporters condemning these criminal acts. Your thoughts and advocacy mean a great deal to us as we continue caring for our patients and supporting our staff.
It has been an extremely painful and frightening time for all of us at Al Ahli Arab Hospital. The attack caused tragic loss of life and injury, and the staff’s prayer room was also burned, adding to their fear and trauma.
Though there has been much pain, the hospital management and staff have been deeply moved by the outpouring of support. Since Sunday, we have received hundreds of visitors, including representatives of civil society, heads of tribes, Mokhtars, international and national organisations, and laypeople, all condemning these criminal acts and showing solidarity with the hospital.”
