USPG & Zambia
The Church of the Province of Central Africa is part of the Anglican Communion, and includes 15 dioceses in Botswana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. USPG is a long-term partner of the Anglican Church in Zambia, facilitating exchanges of clergy, providing support for leadership training, as well as programmes with a focus on gender and climate justice.
Building Bridges of Change
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a serious and widespread issue in Zambia, with one of the highest rates of intimate partner violence globally. Common problems include early marriages, teenage pregnancies, violence against women, and a higher prevalence of HIV/AIDS among women, exacerbated by their limited decision-making power over rights, sexuality, and health. In response, the Zambia Anglican Council has implemented a four-year gender justice project, starting in 2018, within the Diocese of Luapula. This project, including efforts in Matero Parish, Diocese of Lusaka, focuses on empowering the church to advocate for gender justice and lobby against GBV.
Waste Smart, We Care
This is a climate action campaign between three partner provinces: the Church of the Province of Central Africa (Malawi, Zimbabwe & Zambia), Anglican Church of Indian Ocean (Mauritius, Madagascar and Seychelles) and the Anglican Church of Tanzania. The goal is for churches and communities in 47 dioceses to increase their understanding of climate issues, adopt sustainable waste practices, and actively engage in climate initiatives. The campaign highlights the Church’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement in climate solutions.
