Floods in Nepal

On 26 August, a glacial collapse triggered a catastrophic flash flood in northern Nepal. The disaster has become one of Nepal’s most devastating in recent decades, with at least 1,100 people killed and thousands still missing.

The sheer force and speed of the floods and mudslides caused extensive devastation, destroying vital infrastructure such as bridges, homes and churches. Communities are facing great uncertainty.

USPG is in close contact with the Anglican Church in Nepal and is actively monitoring the situation on the ground. The Revd Prem Tamang, Dean of Nepal, has shared the devastating impact of the disaster on local communities and churches. Several churches in the affected areas have collapsed, and some church leaders remain unaccounted for.

Revd Tamang also reported that severe flooding in northern Nepal has damaged numerous buildings and that seven members of Anugraha Anglican Church as well as priests are currently missing. He has requested prayers, support and solidarity during this difficult time.
